Israeli hospital in Haiti ends operations

Israeli team preparing to go home: After performing 316 surgeries and delivering 16 babies, IDF field hospital in Haiti closes its doors Monday as doctors bid patients farewell; Haitian government says quake death toll reaches 150,000

PORT-AU-PRINCE – Israeli doctors preparing to go home: Israel’s field hospital in the quake-ravaged Haiti ended its operations at 4 pm local time Monday.

The hospital, set up by the IDF’s medical corps, is still home to 15 patients who are being monitored following their operations. However, the Israeli hospital will only be receiving emergency cases during the night.

On Sunday, Israeli doctors already started bidding their patients farewell; many of these patients have no home to return to after leaving the hospital.

Israel looking to adopt Haitian orphans

Herzog: Israel looking to adopt Haitian orphans
Jan. 23, 2010
THE JERUSALEM POST

Israel is looking into adopting Haitians orphaned by the January 12 earthquake, Minister of Welfare and Social Services Isaac Herzog told The Jerusalem Post on Saturday.

“We see this as part of Israel’s humanitarian outreach,” Herzog said, referring to the IDF medical operation and the Israeli rescue efforts in the Caribbean nation.

“Haiti was one of the countries that supported us on November 29, 1947, [in the UN vote on the establishment of the state], and now it’s our turn to support them,” he said.

Bashing Israel for saving Haitians

Bashing Israel for saving Haitians

I’d like to say a word of honor and thanks and, yes, pride for the Israelis, paramedics, physicians, nurses, midwives, and medical imaging technicians, who went to Haiti to save lives.

That’s it.

I believe that they are people, individuals, who went there to save limbs from gangrene and amputation, stanch internal bleeding, relieve crushing pain. To deliver babies. To risk their lives, using jackhammers and hydraulics and their hands to make crawl spaces under tons of concrete and silt, going in themselves to pull children and adults to safety.

For all the time that they’ve been working, however, people far away, snug in the comfort of their laptops, have been furiously busy as well, people who are enraged to the boiling point by news reports of the Israeli rescue mission. People who see it as their mission to tell the world exactly what’s wrong with all of this.

IDF field hospital at full stretch in Haiti

The only facility in Haiti with a fully-functioning operating theater, the large Israeli field hospital treated many hundreds of patients in its first four days and helped at least one woman give birth.

Another jumbo jet loaded with supplies and equipment is due to set out to replenish the facility’s dwindling stocks. Medical aid and other basic necessities are still reaching the millions of distressed Haitians in Port-au-Prince and its outskirts too slowly to save lives.

The Israeli military team of 250 is working flat out in the city’s Antoine Izmery soccer field, in a fully-equipped operating theater, intensive care units, child and maternity wards, laboratories, an X-ray facility and a pharmacy.
One-third of the medical team of 40 doctors, 20 paramedics and nurses plus technical staff are IDF reservists who volunteered for the Haiti disaster relief team. They are treating 500 patients a day.

Israel: Bringing Hope Amidst Haiti’s Rubble

Israel: Bringing Hope Amidst Haiti’s Rubble

Some of the positive stories emerging from Israel’s remarkable aid effort.

Many of you have asked for sources of information on Israel’s role in aiding the victims of Haiti’s devastating earthquake. While Israel is one of many nations operating in Haiti, the IDF’s field hospital and search and rescue team have caught the attention of some media outlets. Here are just some of the positive stories emerging from Haiti’s tragedy:

Israel’s Disproportionate Response

Israel’s Disproportionate Response

Many countries and world leaders have accused Israel of responding disproportionately to aggression from Hizballah in Lebanon and Hamas in Gaza.

However, it is time that the world press and media speak of another disproportionate response from Israel.

The terrible disastrous earthquake in Haiti has generated responses from many nations. The US has sent supplies and personnel, Britain sent 64 firemen and 8 volunteers, France sent troops for Search and Rescue. Many large and wealthy nations of the world sent money. The Arab and Moslem world nothing.

Israel, a nation of 7.5 million people has sent a team of 220 people that includes Medical personnel and will establish the largest field hospital in Haiti, treating up to 5000 people a day, an experienced Search and Rescue team and medical supplies. As in previous earthquake disasters, such as in Gujarat India in 2001 and in Turkey, in the bombings in Kenya, Israel has been one of the most generous givers of aid and assistance

Turkey seems to have forgotten this help as its extreme Moslem Government is cozying up to Iran.

Judge Goldstone, where are you now? Eating your heart out and hanging your head down in shame I hope.

The favorite occupation in the UN is Israel bashing. More resolutions have been passed condemning Israel than all the so called democratic nations such as Sudan, China, Russia and others for their crimes against their minorities.

I think it is time that the world should know about Israel’s disproportionate response.
