Israel Prepares to Rebut Goldstone

Israel Prepares to Rebut Goldstone

As Israel prepares to publish its official response to the UN’s Goldstone Report, we highlight some more recent analyses and commentaries.

As reported by the New York Times, Israel is preparing to release its own rebuttal to the Goldstone Report, some of the contents of which were released to the newspaper:

One concerned the destruction of Gaza’s sole flour mill. The Goldstone report asserts that the Bader flour mill “was hit by an airstrike, possibly by an F-16.” The Israeli investigators say they have photographic proof that this is false, that the mill was accidentally hit by artillery in the course of a firefight with Hamas militiamen.

The dispute is significant since the United Nations report asserts that “the destruction of the mill was carried out for the purpose of denying sustenance to the civilian population,” an explicit war crime.

‘Jews exploit Holocaust as propaganda’ says Bishop

‘Jews exploit Holocaust as propaganda’
Jan. 25, 2010 staff , THE JERUSALEM POST

The Holocaust only gets media coverage because of affluent Jews’ financial backing, military might and lobbying fronts, presenting a skewed version of events to the world, a high-ranking Polish bishop told a Catholic news portal on Monday.

Tadeusz Pieronek, a Polish bishop and professor and a friend of the last pope, John Paul II, claimed that “the Holocaust as such is a Jewish invention” promoted in the press by Jews to gain support for Israel.

Auschwitz Blueprints on Display in Israeli Holocaust Museum

Auschwitz Blueprints on Display in Israeli Holocaust Museum

The neat lines and red rectangular sketches look like any typical architectural design. But the handwritten initials H.H. — belonging to the infamous Nazi SS chief Heinrich Himmler — indicate what the drawings represent: wooden barracks, gas chambers and crematoria.

Just ahead of the 65th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, Israel’s Holocaust memorial Yad Vashem is displaying the blueprints of the notorious death camp that has become a symbol of the Nazi genocide of European Jewry. It is the first time the plans will be on display for a wide audience.

PORT-AU-PRINCE – Israeli doctors preparing to go home: Israel’s field hospital in the quake-ravaged Haiti ended its operations at 4 pm local time Monday.

The hospital, set up by the IDF’s medical corps, is still home to 15 patients who are being monitored following their operations. However, the Israeli hospital will only be receiving emergency cases during the night.

On Sunday, Israeli doctors already started bidding their patients farewell; many of these patients have no home to return to after leaving the hospital.

Israel looking to adopt Haitian orphans

Herzog: Israel looking to adopt Haitian orphans
Jan. 23, 2010

Israel is looking into adopting Haitians orphaned by the January 12 earthquake, Minister of Welfare and Social Services Isaac Herzog told The Jerusalem Post on Saturday.

“We see this as part of Israel’s humanitarian outreach,” Herzog said, referring to the IDF medical operation and the Israeli rescue efforts in the Caribbean nation.

“Haiti was one of the countries that supported us on November 29, 1947, [in the UN vote on the establishment of the state], and now it’s our turn to support them,” he said.

A Jewish organization helping families with special needs is on the road to possibly winning a $1 million donation in a Facebook contest today.

The only caveat is that the most important voting hours of the competition are set to take place after the start of Shabbat, the Sabbath, tonight.

Rabbi Levi Shemtov, national coordinator for the Friendship Circle, has publicly requested that Jewish participants not vote after sundown due to Orthodox Jewish restrictions on using electronic devices on the Shabbat.

“We are prepared to lose 1 million dollars, but not to mar the celebration of our divinely given day of rest with the mundane electronic process of voting,” Shemtov said.
