Israel – Alone and Strong

Israel – Alone and Strong
By EARL COX

It doesn’t matter how small or weak Israel may seem, compared to other nations. The power of all other nations combined is only like a drop in the bucket compared to the power of the God of Israel.

In his address to the Israeli nation on the recent occasion of the country’s 62nd Independence Day anniversary, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu declared, “Israel can only truly rely on itself.”

Obviously, and with good reason, he was reminding his nation and people that they cannot depend on the United States or anyone else in the international community to defend them, if and when Iran tries to fulfill its threats to “wipe Israel off the face of the map.” Netanyahu quoted Theodore Herzl, the respected Zionist leader of 100 years ago, who said, “Don’t rely on help from strangers, don’t trust the charitable, and don’t wish for stones to grow soft.” And Netanyahu added, “A nation that wishes to stand tall must place all its trust in itself only.”

MCC urges governments to end Gaza blockade

MCC urges governments to end Gaza blockade
Gladys Terichow
June 4, 2010

WINNIPEG, Man. – Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) is urging the governments of the U.S. and Canada to work constructively within the international community to restore the normal flow of goods and people through Gaza-Israel border crossings.

In letters to the U.S. president and Canada’s foreign affairs minister, MCC urges them to support an impartial and independent investigation into Israel’s deadly response to the Free Gaza flotilla on May 31.

The convoy, carrying 10,000 tonnes of much-needed aid, was attempting to enter the Gaza Strip by sea and break the Israeli blockade that has a devastating effect on the livelihoods and lives of Gaza’s 1.5 million Palestinians. The convoy was intercepted by the Israeli military before reaching Gaza and clashes led to the deaths of nine people.

Daryl Byler, MCC’s representative in the region, said hundreds of thousands of people in Gaza live in dire conditions without employment and basic supplies because of the Israeli blockade.

The World’s Oldest Disease – Anti-Semitism

The World’s Oldest Disease
by Jan Markell

June 14. 2010

The world remains sick with a very old disease for which no cure has ever been found. It tends to go into remission now and then, but it always reappears as virulent as ever. It even develops into new strains. Some have called it a lethal obsession. It is called anti-Semitism, and if the Jews did not exist, some anti-Semite would invent him. It’s that bad.

The Helen Thomas story is now old but it was very revealing. In just a brief moment of time, she spewed in microcosm what kings, generals, fuhrers, pharoahs, and Muslim extremists have done in legion. She tried to dispossess the Jews. None of Israel’s enemies have any knowledge of what the Bible has to say about the land or the people of Israel. None of her enemies experience even a nano-second of guilt for telling the Jews to go back to Auschwitz. Even though I researched the Holocaust to write the Anita Dittman story, Trapped in Hitler’s Hell, I cannot imagine the haunting thought of being told to go back to Auschwitz had I ever been interned there. But in demonstrations after the May 31 flotilla fiasco in Gaza, signs sprouted up all over the world saying that the Jews should all pack up and head to Auschwitz, which is now a solemn memorial museum. In its own way, it says “never again” just as all of Israel does when the subject of the Holocaust comes up.

For someone to tell a Jew in Israel to “go home” also makes no sense because they are home.

Religious Rally Against Israel

Religious Rally Against Israel

Churches for Middle East Peace (CMEP) tries to organize American religious opinion against Israel with relatively measured tones. Its participants predictably include officials from the left-dominated Mainline Protestant denominations, liberal Catholic orders, and the Greek Archdiocese of North America, as well as the Antiochian Orthodox Church in the U.S. Its official “friends” include more overtly anti-Israel diehards like Friends of Sabeel – North America, which essentially wants to dissolve Jewish Israel in favor of a multi-ethnic “Palestine.” Various advocates of anti-Israel divestment, an otherwise largely defeated cause, are also “friends” to CEMP, including the Episcopal Peace Fellowship, the Presbyterian Peace Fellowship, and the Methodist Federation for Social Action.

Ex-UK premier favors int’l probe, supports right to self-defense.

Israel has the right to protect itself, former British prime minister Tony Blair said in an interview with Channel 10 on Tuesday.

Blair met with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Ehud Barak on Tuesday to discuss the repercussions of last week’s flotilla raid.

“Any investigation has to be full and impartial, and there may be some sort of international element that could be part of it,” Blair said.

While Blair stressed the need to launch an international, impartial probe into the incident, he assured that he wholeheartedly supports Israel’s right to self-defense.

Let’s hope the world is right about ‘evil’ Israel

Let’s hope the world is right about ‘evil’ Israel

By Dennis Prager

http://www.JewishWorldReview.com | With the exception of the United States, nearly all the world’s nations; newspapers, radio and TV news stations; the United Nations; and the world’s Leftist academics and organizations have condemned Israel over the Gaza flotilla incident. The characterizations of the Jewish state range from a society so evil that it should not be allowed to exist to a villainous nation that is responsible for a) the suffering of millions of innocent Palestinian men, women and children; b) the lack of Mideast peace; therefore c) the Muslim world’s anger at the West; and therefore d) Islamic terrorism itself.

Let’s hope the world is right.
