UN chief denounces Iranian anti-Israel threats and Holocaust denial

In stinging rebuke to hosts, UN chief denounces Iranian anti-Israel threats and Holocaust denial
Words by Ban Ki-moon follow harsh attack by Khamenei on UN, US and ‘Zionists’

United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon delivered a sharp rebuttal to Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Thursday, after Khamenei delivered a speech denouncing Israel, the UN and the US at the Non-Aligned Movement summit in Tehran.

“I strongly reject any threat by any [UN] member state to destroy another, or outrageous comments to deny historical facts such as the Holocaust,” Ban said.

“Claiming another UN member state does not have the right to exist or describe it in racist terms is not only utterly wrong but undermines the very principles we have all promised to uphold,” the UN chief added.

United Church of Canada Joins Boycott of Israeli Products in Support of Palestinian Christians

The United Church of Canada last week approved a boycott on all products made in disputed Israeli-Palestinian territories in protest over Israeli settlements purportedly pushing into Palestinian territory.
The recommendation was approved on Aug. 15 by the Church’s General Council in Ottawa, after an eight-day event that included more than 350 delegates.

Why Obama Still Won’t Go to Israel

Talk v. action: Why Obama Still Won’t Go to Israel
By Jonathan Tobin
Obama after revealing to AIPAC his ‘true’ feelings about the Jewish State

Why has Obama always been so reluctant to show the Israelis some love when it would cost him so little and bring such a great reward?

JewishWorldReview.com | The disagreement between Israel and the Obama administration over whether it’s time to acknowledge that diplomacy has failed to stop Iran’s nuclear program is starting to make a lot of people nervous. Both Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Ehud Barak seem to be interpreting the administration’s staunch refusal to abandon a diplomatic track that has already clearly failed as meaning that the president won’t make good on his promise to stop Iran from going nuclear. That has led to talk that Israel will strike Iran without U.S. assistance or permission and that it may do so even before the November presidential election.

Vatican appointment humiliates Israel

Vatican appointment humiliates Israel

Op-ed: Appointment of archbishop linked to pedophile priests’ scandal as envoy to Jerusalem underscores strained Israel-Holy See ties
Menachem Gantz

The decision by Pope Benedict XVI to appoint Archbishop Giuseppe Lazzarotto as the new papal ambassador to the Holy Land is an embarrassment and humiliation for Israel. The new papal nuncio, as the ambassador is known, has been serving as papal envoy to Australia since 2007, and he is expected to replace outgoing Archbishop Antonio Franco after six years of service in Jerusalem.

Franco, who threatened to boycott the Holocaust Remembrance Day ceremony five years ago, will be remembered in Rome as the envoy who conducted the Catholic Church’s battle to clear the name of Pope Pius XII at the Yad Vashem Museum. The campaign was hailed as a success by the Vatican after the Holocaust memorial museum agreed to replace a caption suggesting Pope Pius XII did not do enough to stop the genocide of six million Jews by Nazi Germany during World War II.

Israel on the Brink of War: Does the World Care?

‘Tumour’ of Israel will soon be destroyed: Ahmadinejad
By Mohammad Davari (AFP) – 12 hours ago

TEHRAN — Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad told an annual anti-Israel protest in Tehran on Friday that the Jewish state was a “cancerous tumour” that will soon be excised, drawing Western rebukes.
Washington said Ahmadinejad’s statements were “reprehensible”, while Paris viewed them as “outrageous.”

Iranian officials ramp up rhetoric ahead of :Al-Quds Day”; Israeli official: Statement “not an aberration.”
