10 Ways the World is Biased Against Israel

10 Ways the World is Biased Against Israel
David Harris

It’s appalling to see how Israel is treated by a totally different standard than other countries in the international system. Of course, Israel deserves scrutiny, as does every other nation. But it also merits equal treatment — nothing more, nothing less.
First, Israel is the only UN member state whose very right to exist is under constant challenge.
Notwithstanding the fact that Israel embodies an age-old connection with the Jewish people as repeatedly cited in the most widely read book in the world, the Bible, that it was created based on the 1947 recommendation of the UN, and that it has been a member of the world body since 1949, there’s a relentless chorus of nations, institutions, and individuals denying Israel’s very political legitimacy.

Israel Braces for Propaganda Assault by the U.N.

Israel Braces for Propaganda Assault by the U.N.

by Joseph Klein

The United Nations Human Rights Council is set to shortly release a so-called fact-finding report on the war last year in Gaza between Israel and Hamas, prepared by its “commission of inquiry.” The report is scheduled for “debate” by the Human Rights Council members on June 29th. The only thing that is likely to be debated is which member of this hypocritical body, consisting of some of the world’s worst human rights abusers, gets to use the most strident adjectives to condemn Israel for alleged “war crimes and “crimes against humanity.”

As Yair Lapid, the chairman of Israel’s centrist Yesh Atid party said in predicting a one-sided anti-Israel report, it will further prove that the United Nations has “lost its mind.”

Mr. President, You are NO Friend of Israel

Mr. President, You are NO Friend of Israel
By Ken Blackwell and Bob Morrison , CP Op-Ed Contributors

President Obama, you recently gave an interview to Israeli television claiming you are “the closest thing to a Jew that has ever sat in this office.” That’s so far from the truth even a GPS cannot find it.

First, there was George Washington. His address to the Hebrew Congregation at Newport in 1790 was the first time in history any national leader spoke to the Jews as fully equal fellow citizens. Then, there was Thomas Jefferson, who thought the Great Seal of the United States should have been the Children of Israel and their Exodus from Egyptian bondage. President Lincoln was so beloved by American Jews that they called him “Rabbi Abraham.”

Then there was FDR. President Roosevelt met the first King of Saudi Arabia. He didn’t bow to him, Sir, as you did to that desert despot’s son. But President Franklin D. Roosevelt insisted on holding Divine Services on board his warship, the USS Quincy, before his Sunday meeting with the Saudi king. Roosevelt got nowhere pleading with King Adbul Azziz for a homeland for the Jews. But at least he maintained his dignity and our national honor. . .

Justice…for Israel?

Justice…for Israel?
by Jim Fletcher
Prophecy Matters

I am just returning from the Justice Conference, a two-day affair in Chicago. From the website:

“Our vision is to serve the discovery of ideas, celebrate the beauty of justice, and foster a community of people who live justice together. Now, more than ever, people of faith need to come together to wrestle with the injustice in our world. This is the time. This is the place.”

I have many thoughts about the conference, and will be writing and speaking about it more in the coming weeks, but for now I want to focus on two things: Israel and Bible prophecy. . .

FOUR THINGS NATALIE PORTMAN GETS RIGHT WHEN TALKING ABOUT ISRAEL

FOUR THINGS NATALIE PORTMAN GETS RIGHT WHEN TALKING ABOUT ISRAEL

Read headlines about Natalie Portman’s recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, and you would be forgiven for thinking that the 2010 Oscar winner appointed herself as Israel’s chief critic by virtue of her cinema stardom – a move that would not be so unusual for most Hollywood elites. But if you read the interview itself, you will find that Portman deserves credit and emulation for the careful way in which she discusses Israel, her Jewish faith, and the importance of principled parenting.

Here are four principles Portman applied that we all would do well to imitate:

GOD’S NOT DONE WITH THE JEWISH PEOPLE

GOD’S NOT DONE WITH THE JEWISH PEOPLE

It’s no secret. The President of the United States, Barack Obama, despises Israel. But what is even more apparent is his hatred for Israel’s leader, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. We now know that Obama did everything possible behind the scenes to sabotage Netanyahu’s recent re-election. Fortunately, Obama’s attempts to undermine Netanyahu’s campaign backfired. When Israeli citizens saw Obama’s open disdain for their Prime Minister, it turned the election — which had been a tight race — into a landslide victory for Netanyahu.

In my opinion, Israel’s decision to re-elect Bibi Netanyahu may have been as much a vote against Obama as a vote in favor of Netanyahu. Even when Barack Obama first ran for the office of US President in 2008, polls showed that a vast majority of Israelis opposed him. Unlike a majority of American Jews at the time, Israeli Jews did not trust Obama. His very pro-UN positions on Israeli/Palestinian issues deeply concerned them. Yet, despite his well-known positions Americans voted him into power; then elected him a second time, fully aware of what he stood for.

Ottawa threatening hate charges against those who boycott Israel

Ottawa threatening hate charges against those who boycott Israel
Canada / 11-05-2015

The Harper government is signalling its intention to use hate crime laws against Canadian advocacy groups that encourage boycotts of Israel.

Such a move could target a range of civil society organizations, from the United Church of Canada and the Canadian Quakers to campus protest groups and labour unions.

If carried out, it would be a remarkably aggressive tactic, and another measure of the Conservative government’s lockstep support for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

While the federal government certainly has the authority to assign priorities, such as pursuing certain types of hate speech, to the RCMP, any resulting prosecution would require an assent from a provincial attorney general.

And it would almost certainly be challenged under the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, civil liberties groups say.

The government’s intention was made clear in a response to inquiries from CBC News about statements by federal ministers of a “zero tolerance” approach to groups participating in a loose coalition called Boycott, Divest and Sanction (BDS), which was begun in 2006 at the request of Palestinian non-governmental organizations.

Asked to explain what zero tolerance means, and what is being done to enforce it, a spokesperson for Public Safety Minister Steven Blaney replied, four days later, with a detailed list of Canada’s updated hate laws, noting that Canada has one of the most comprehensive sets of such laws “anywhere in the world.”

The Truth About Israel The World Doesn’t Like to Admit

Actions speak louder than words…

It’s so easy to condemn and make up facts without checking what is reality. The people speaking on this video, have made up their minds and will not let the facts confuse them. Yet public opinion is swayed by what public figures say.

Speak out. Israel is a democracy and gives Israeli Arabs full rights (and at times practices affirmative action).

Say it like it is. Israeli respects human rights and dignity and only falls back upon force when threatened and attacked.

Be honest. Israel respects the rights of the Palestinians and treats them in Israeli hospitals.

Many Muslims respond with hatred, deligitimitize Israel, attack Israelis verbally and physically, create historical fiction and blame Israel for it.

The Muslim world has been succesful in its propaganda crusade. We need to stand strong and refute the lies.

BIDEN TO JEWISH AMERICANS: ISRAEL’S YOUR ONLY TRUE HOME [Excerpts]

U.S. Vice President Joe Biden’s words last fall to senior Jewish American leaders are serving as a daunting reminder —with the escalating anti-Semitism witnessed in Europe, American campuses and the White House — that Israel is the only true and secure home that the Jewish community can count on.

While speaking at a Rosh Hashanah party last September, Biden oddly brought up a quote he remembered from former Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir….“You understand in your bones that no matter how hospitable, no matter how consequential, no matter how engaged, no matter how deeply involved you are in the United States … there is really only one absolute guarantee, and that’s the state of Israel,” Biden expressed to Jewish leaders, who were wary about the point he was trying make.

“Of course, it can and has been argued that Biden’s point of view is correct, and that ultimately even the Jews of America will have no choice but to flee to the relative safety of Israel,” reported Israel Today magazine. “Much has been made of rising anti-Semitism in Europe, but the same is true of the United States of late.”

Dionne Warwick Says Roger Waters’ Political Views on Israel ‘of No Concern

Celebrated Singer Dionne Warwick Says Roger Waters’ Political Views on Israel ‘of No Concern
May 6, 2015

Legendary American singer Dionne Warwick said on Wednesday that her decision to perform in Israel this month would not be swayed by the “hard pressures” of prominent anti-Israel boycott, divestment and sanctions activists in the music industry.

A statement released by the singer and U.N. global ambassador said Warwick “would never fall victim to the hard pressures of Roger Waters, from Pink Floyd, or other political people who have their views on politics in Israel.”

“Waters’ political views are of no concern,” the statement read.

Unlike singer-songwriter Lauryn Hill, who decided to cancel her Tel Aviv show just a few days before her performance this week, Warwick said that if she had “had an objection to performing in Israel, no offer would have been entertained and no contract would have been signed.”

“Art has no boundaries. Ms. Warwick will always honor her contracts,” the statement read.

Never forget… Never again

Obama decries anti-Semitism in Remembrance Day message
‘Never forget. Never again,’ US president says, joining European Union in call to combat ‘far too common’ Jew-hatred

US President Barack Obama called for a forceful stand against anti-Semitism in a message marking Israel’s Holocaust Remembrance Day.

“It is incumbent upon us to make real those timeless words, ‘Never forget. Never again.’ Yet, even as we recognize that mankind is capable of unspeakable acts of evil, we also draw strength from the survivors, the liberators, and the righteous among nations who represented humanity at its best,” Obama said.

“With their example to guide us, together we must firmly and forcefully condemn the anti-Semitism that is still far too common today.

Netanyahu to Obama: Iran deal threatens Israel’s survival
PM tells president agreement based on new framework would ‘legitimize Iran’s nuclear program, bolster its economy, increase its aggression and terror in Mideast and beyond

A nuclear deal with Iran based on the political framework reached in Switzerland between Tehran and the P5+1 world earlier Thursday “threatens the survival of the State of Israel,” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told US President Barack Obama during a phone call to discuss the accord

Obama phoned Netanyahu hours after the framework was struck. Netanyahu has been strongly opposed to the emerging deal, arguing that it does not have the necessary safeguards and will pave the way to a nuclear Iran.

Official: White House was part of bid to oust Netanyahu
Senior Jerusalem source says administration wanted ‘revenge’ over Congress speech; declares there’ll be no Palestinian state ‘in our generation’

The White House was directly involved in an attempt to unseat Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in last week’s general election, during a nadir in ties between the Israeli leader and US President Barack Obama, a senior Jerusalem official said Tuesday

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told The Times of Israel that “it’s no secret” that the Obama administration had attempted to influence the outcome of the election, having been partially motivated by a desire for revenge over Netanyahu’s polarizing speech before Congress earlier this month, which sought to undermine the president’s key foreign policy initiative – a nuclear deal with Iran.

Obama Plots Revenge Against Israel

“…we’re on the precipice I think of real danger here. These next two years, there are no impediments, there’s nothing stopping him. This stuff is really, really scary. This is the stuff that Saturday Night Live skits are made of, except this is as real as anything. We have the leader of the free world, Barack Obama, the president of the United States, actually now planning on going to the United Nations to undermine our ally, Israel, in favor of our enemy, Iran, and I would dare say our other enemies, Hamas and Hezbollah.”

Netanyahu scores crushing victory in Israeli elections
With almost all votes tallied, Likud heading for 29-24 seat win over Zionist Union; PM promises new coalition with other ‘nationalist parties’

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud party was the clear winner in Tuesday’s election, a near-final tally showed early Wednesday morning, defeating the Zionist Union by a margin of some six seats

That margin was far more decisive than TV exit polls had predicted when polling booths closed at 10 p.m. on Tuesday. All three TV polls had put Likud and Zionist Union neck-and-neck at 27 seats, albeit with Netanyahu better-placed to form a coalition. . .

Reactions to PM of Israel’s Speech

Nothing focuses the mind and heart like moral, ethical, and legal clarity. And today in the House of Representatives chamber at the United States Capitol, the prime minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, gave an historically important speech. A speech that any previous American president could have and maybe would have made, a speech to rally and save Western civilization.

Meanwhile . . .

President Obama didn’t watch Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech, and after reading a transcript of the address insisted there was “nothing new” there. . . “I’m not focused on the politics of it. I’m not focused on the theater of it.”

However . . .

Even the Editor-in-Chief of Al Arabiya English believes that when it comes to Iran, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is right and President Obama is wrong. Faisal J. Abbas, whose leftist credentials are impeccable (he blogs for the Huffington Post) said that a recent ceremony to thank IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz, Netanyahu correctly estimated the threat. Abbas wrote on Al Arabiya, “The Israeli PM managed to hit the nail right on the head when he said that Middle Eastern countries are collapsing and that “terror organizations, mostly backed by Iran, are filling in the vacuum.”
Abbas continued, “In just a few words, Mr. Netanyahu managed to accurately summarize a clear and present danger, not just to Israel (which obviously is his concern), but to other U.S. allies in the region.”
Then, after praising Netanyahu, Abbas got down to business, pointing out Obama’s dangerous Iran policy. . .

Anti-Zionist Lectures in Canada

Previously, Olive Press reported on the Facing the New Jerusalem Conference: Face-to-Face with Christian Zionism and with Palestinian Christians by Friends of Sabeel. Originally scheduled for this October in the Lower Mainland of B.C., Canada, it has been postponed until spring 2015. (See the information and reasons for concern as previously posted on this blog here: Canadian Friends of Sabeel or Enemies of Israel?)

Christians who support Israel and are aware of this upcoming anti-Zionist conference next spring may also be interested in a lecture series next week. It seems to be the precursor to next year’s Friends of Sabeel conference (at the same location). This mini-conference is also supported by Canadian Friends of Sabeel and endorsed by the political science department at UFV[1]. Here is the information:

Since these (anti-Zionist) lectures are about what Christian Zionists believe, it is interesting that no Christian Zionists have been invited to speak at this event. May those who know the truth spread the news and plan on attending to support Israel. The future direction of students with impressionable minds may depend on it.

*Note: is it any coincidence that this event has been scheduled on a Friday night and Saturday (Shabbat) when observant Jews will not be able to attend?

Obama administration does not share Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s view

Netanyahu: Militant Islam Aims to ‘Dominate World;’ State Dept.: ‘No’ It Doesn’t
by Patrick Goodenough

(CNSNews.com) – The Obama administration does not share Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s view that the forces of militant Islam, whether Sunni or Shi’ite, have in common an ultimate goal “to dominate the world,” a State Department spokeswoman said Monday.
In a hard-hitting speech at the United Nations, the Israeli leader said that entities such as the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS/ISIL), Hamas, the Iranian regime, Hezbollah, al-Qaeda and Boko Haram share that eventual goal.
Jen Psaki was asked at the State Department daily briefing later whether the administration agreed with Netanyahu’s argument that those various groups “are all part of the same kind of militant Muslim – Islamic attempt to rule the world.”

Canada’s PM to be Nominated for Nobel Peace Prize for His Support of Israel

Canada’s PM to be Nominated for Nobel Peace Prize for His Support of Israel
By Ahuva Balofsky

B’nai Brith of Canada announced Friday it intends to nominate Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper for a Nobel Peace Prize, in recognition of his staunch and unwavering support of Israel.
“With recent developments across the globe posing new and difficult challenges, only one leader, Prime Minister Stephen Harper, has maintained the moral clarity needed to face them, says B’nai Brith Canada,” reads the press release.
B’nai Brith CEO Frank Dimant said, “Moral clarity has been lost across much of the world, with terror, hatred and antisemitism filling the void. Throughout, there has been one leader which has demonstrated international leadership and a clear understanding of the differences between those who would seek to do evil, and their victims. More than any other individual, he has consistently spoken out with resolve regarding the safety of people under threat — such as opposing Russian aggression and annexation of Ukrainian territory — and has worked to ensure that other world leaders truly understand the threat of Islamic terrorism facing us today.”

The White House Stabs Israel in the Back – Again

The White House Stabs Israel in the Back —- Again

Let us engage in a brief thought experiment. Imagine if a top American official during World War II, say Eisenhower or perhaps Bradly, publically blasted Britain while British troops were slugging it out with German panzers at Caen, while British blood was being used to secure the Allies’ left flank and the roads to Paris. It is an inconceivable thought, but had it occurred, evidence of a fissure among allies would have served to embolden Hitler and would have had a devastating demoralizing effect on our British partners.

Of course, the Allies had their differences (Montgomery and Patton were notorious critics of one another) but generally kept them hush and within the family. It would be unfathomable for members of the Allied powers to publically censure one another, for such action would be deemed counterproductive. On the rare occasion where a ranking member of the Allied forces veered from accepted protocol and issued public criticism, he was scolded and quickly forced to issue a retraction or apology.

Fast forward to July 2014. . .

Obama’s Betrayal of Israel as a Jewish State

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas has flatly refused to recognize Israel’s right to exist as a Jewish state. Such recognition is a key condition that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has demanded for reaching an acceptable peace agreement on a two-state solution with the Palestinians.

Prime Minister Netanyahu explained the importance of such Palestinian recognition, which would amount to an expression of the Palestinians’ good faith intention to truly end the conflict by accepting Israel’s right of self-determination to once and for all live in peace as the Jewish state its founders envisioned. . .

Netanyahu to Obama: Peace Is ‘Not a Piece of Paper’

“Now, I know this flies in the face of conventional wisdom, but it’s the truth,” Netanyahu continued. “And the people of Israel know that it’s the truth because they’ve been living it. What they want is peace. What we all want fervently is peace. Not a piece a paper –- although that, too — but a real peace; a peace that is anchored in mutual recognition of two nation states that recognize and respect one another, and solid security arrangements on the ground.”

“…The Palestinians expect us to recognize a Palestinian state for the Palestinian people, a nation state for the Palestinian people. I think it’s about time they recognize a nation state for the Jewish people. We’ve only been there for 4,000 years.”

Obama’s War on Israel

Obama’s War on Israel

If the left’s foreign policy these days had a slogan, it would be, “Boycott Israel, not Iran.” The double standard, dishonest as it is ugly, is also the motto of Obama’s foreign policy, which benevolently blesses Iran’s nuclear program with one outstretched hand in the name of peace and chokes concessions out of Israel to the terrorists with the other also in the name of peace.

Both peace plans are going disastrously according to plan.

PM welcomes his visiting Canadian counterpart, praising “great friend of Israel, Jewish people”.

With the ceremonial trappings generally reserved for kings and presidents, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu warmly greeted his Canadian counterpart Stephen Harper to Jerusalem on Sunday, praising him for his “courage, clarity and convictions.”
“You are a great friend of Israel and the Jewish people,” Netanyahu said at an unusual welcoming ceremony held at the Prime Minister’s office. “I am not just saying that, I mean it deeply from the bottom of my heart, and I am speaking for all of the people of Israel.”
One diplomatic official said that the ceremony, which included an honor guard, trumpets blaring, and a long receiving line, was unusual for anyone but heads of state, and was meant to underline Israel’s appreciation to Harper and Canada.

Why is Stephen Harper one of Israel’s staunchest supporters?

Why is Stephen Harper one of Israel’s staunchest supporters?
Visiting Israel on Sunday, the devout evangelical Christian prime minister gains little with his support, and may be paying a price

TORONTO (JTA) — It took seven years, but one of Israel’s staunchest allies among world leaders will be making his maiden voyage to the Jewish state on Sunday

In announcing the trip last month at a Jewish National Fund dinner, where he was being honored, Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper called Israel “a light of freedom and democracy in what is otherwise a region of darkness” and pledged that the Jewish state “will always have Canada as a friend.”

Since his election in 2006, the Conservative prime minister has been full throated, unapologetic and seemingly indifferent to consequence in his support for Israel.

Stephen Harper’s deceased father a key influence in PM’s support for Israel

Stephen Harper’s deceased father a key influence in PM’s support for Israel
PM has called his father the ‘greatest influence’ on his life
Mark Kennedy

OTTAWA — His father was an army cadet too young to see active service in the Second World War but who swore never to forget the horrors of the Holocaust.

So when Stephen Harper was growing up in Toronto with his two brothers, he learned from his dad, Joseph Harper — a man he later described as the “greatest influence” on his life.
Joseph Harper, an accountant who became a member of the Presbyterian Church, was a student of military history who despised totalitarianism.

He had seen what it can produce, how Hitler’s Nazis had obliterated six million Jews from the face of Europe. He understood why the Jews wanted a Jewish state called Israel to prosper and be safe.

The French-Israeli-Saudi Front Against Iran?

The French-Israeli-Saudi Front Against Iran?

Israel and Saudi Arabia are proving the old adage correct that “the enemy of my enemy is my friend.” The Iranian regime is their common enemy. Israel sees a nuclear armed Iran as an existential threat. Sunni Saudi Arabia worries that Shiite Iran with nuclear arms will be emboldened to threaten other Sunni Gulf governments and ultimately try to force its will on Saudi Arabia itself.

Thus, the Jewish state of Israel and the Islamic state of Saudi Arabia, certainly not friends in normal times, find themselves planning to join forces if necessary to stop Iran from crossing the nuclear arms finish line….

The current Israel-US rift was only a matter of time

The current Israel-US rift was only a matter of time

Given their wildly different stances on the Mideast, is it any wonder the Obama administration and the Netanyahu government keep clashing?

In many ways, the most recent discord between Washington and Benjamin Netanyahu’s government was inevitable. It was really only a matter of time — for more reasons than just the personal tensions between Netanyahu and Barack Obama.

A deep abyss separates the two sides when it comes to their perspectives of the Middle East and the changes it has undergone in recent years.
