Special Alert: Flotilla Battle Unleashes Anti-Israel Wave

Special Alert: Flotilla Battle Unleashes Anti-Israel Wave

Will the media report accurately and fairly as anti-Israel activists violently resist an IDF naval boarding with tragic results?

In the early hours of Monday 31 May, Israeli naval commandos boarded a flotilla of vessels heading for Gaza. What happened next has created a major media storm as, according to reports, over a dozen anti-Israel activists have died and many more injured, including Israeli soldiers.

Israel’s critics have been quick to condemn the incident, using it to inflame anti-Israel sentiment. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has already termed what is undoubtedly a serious incident as a “massacre”. Will this be the latest in a long list of incidents that have been distorted and misrepresented to cause Israel the maximum amount of damage to its image?

Toronto prepares to walk with Israel

Netanyahu to speak to an estimated 15,000 walkers in Canadian city.

Residents of Toronto, Canada will get a chance to show their love for Israel on Sunday, when an expected 15,000 supporters will join the annual day-long UJA Walk with Israel. The walk, whose proceeds will go toward projects initiated by the Toronto Federation to help Ethiopian immigrants in Bat Yam, is going to have an extra attraction this year – Prime Minister Binymanin Netanyahu, who will speak to the walkers before they head off on their routes on Sunday morning.

“The timing is perfect,” Amir Gissin, Israel’s consul general in Toronto, said about Netanyahu’s visit to Canada which began on Friday. “Canada is today a very close friend of Israel, with both a friendly government and opposition; we just had the premier of Ontario, Dalton McGuinty, in Israel.”

Israel as pariah?

“This past week, Chomsky, a linguistics professor at MIT, was denied entrance into Israel, where he was due to give a lecture to students at Bir Zeit University, near the West Bank city of Ramallah; the institution is a hot-bed of Palestinian activism.

Instead, Chomsky gave the lecture via video link from Amman, Jordan, no doubt a country with which the leftwing Chomsky is rather chummy, given his anti-American, anti-Israel rantings of the past half-century.

Speaking to the press, Chomsky had this to say:

“He told the paper that Israel’s behaviour reminded him of that of South Africa in the 1960s, when it realised it was already considered a pariah, but thought it would resolve the problem with better public relations.”

Israel as pariah. How interesting…”

Hundreds burn Israeli fruit, vegetable crates after clerics issue religious edict
Roee Nahmias

Cold peace with Jordan: Israelis good were burned in Jordan Saturday, during protests against Israel in the Hashemite Kingdom’s capital marking Nakba Day.

Hundreds of members of the Anti-Normalization Committee, which fights against normalization of economic relations with Israel, set fire to hundreds of fruit and vegetable crates imported from the Jewish neighbor.

The protest, held in Amman’s central marketplace, came a day after Jordanian clerics issued a religious edict that forbids purchasing merchandise from Israel.
