A One-Sided Attack on Zionism

A One-Sided Attack on Zionism
The many problems with the documentary ‘With God on Our Side.’
Gerald McDermott

The documentary With God on Our Side is anything but balanced. It does not give “both sides their due” but instead interviews only Israelis on the far left and ignores Christian Zionists who defend the rights of Palestinians. The result is a one-sided attack on Israel that treats social and political realities with the same ideological insouciance which the documentary assigns to John Hagee and his band.
One interviewee in the film claims—without rebuttal—that Jews did not live in the land for two thousand years. The truth is that Jewish communities have lived in the land through all this time, flourishing in Jerusalem, Galilee and coastal cities in the 9th and 11th centuries, and then rebounding after being massacred by Crusaders in the 12th century. By the early 19th century, long before the rise of Zionism, more than ten thousand Jews lived in what is now Israel. . .

Vatican recognizes state of Palestine

Vatican recognizes state of Palestine in new treaty
Jerusalem says move not conducive to peace, will consider ‘next steps’ after Holy See announcement ahead of weekend meeting between pope, Abbas

The Vatican officially recognized the state of Palestine in a new treaty Wednesday, drawing criticism from Jerusalem.

The treaty, which was finalized Wednesday but still has to be signed, makes clear that the Holy See has switched its diplomatic relations from the Palestinian Liberation Organization to the state of Palestine.

The Vatican had welcomed the decision by the UN General Assembly in 2012 to recognize a Palestinian state.

But the treaty is the first legal document negotiated between the Holy See and the Palestinian state and constitutes an official recognition.

Anti-Zionist Church Extremism

Later this month, Canadian Friends of Sabeel will hold a conference on “overcoming Christian Zionism.” Sabeel describes itself as an “ecumenical Palestinian liberation theology centre” that is “working for justice, peace and reconciliation in Palestine-Israel.” In reality, it is a group that promotes a misrepresentation of events in the Middle East. The conference slated for Vancouver is explicitly aimed at undermining Israel among its North American Christian supporters.

Conservative Christians have been among Israel’s most reliable bloc of friends in troubled times. Like any bedfellows, the Zionist-Christian alliance brings with it complexities. While some Christians use Zionism as a back door to evangelizing or view Christianity as a “successor” religion to Judaism, for example, there are also many in the Christian Zionist movement who respect the integrity of Judaism.

The upcoming conference is co-sponsored by three Christian churches.

The United Church of Canada, for decades but especially in recent years, has adopted a heavily anti-Israel approach to global affairs. Their sponsorship of this event is not surprising. The Presbyterian Church in Canada is also supporting this event, though this, too, is not shocking, given that the American branch of the Presbyterian Church has been beset by anti-Israel agitation and last year voted to divest itself of some Israeli holdings.

What is surprising – and worrisome – is the role of the Anglican Church of Canada as co-sponsor of this conference. Two years ago, the church passed a resolution that made some attempts at balance but was marred by typical anti-Israel boilerplate. With their co-sponsorship of this Sabeel event, the Anglican church has thrown itself unequivocally off the fence.

Know the truth about the next anti-Israel propaganda conference

Friends of Sabeel conferences continue to take place several times annually in major North American cities, where calls for BDS are sounded, and where “overcoming Christian Zionism in a quest for Justice” in “seeking the peace of Jerusalem” is a major theme. These calumnies and misrepresentations of Israel have nothing to do with peace and even less to do with justice. They are even more unacceptable coming from church groups or a man of the cloth.

I don’t know if that’s true or not, but I do know that the president defends Islam and chastises Christians, rebukes our allies and befriends our enemies, and fully supports gay marriages and abortion but denies the religious freedoms of those who don’t agree. A Night at the anti-Israel Improv

Did you hear the one about the anti-Zionist lectures[1] in Canada last week? This is how the night unfolded, as re-told to Olive Press . . .

October 24th

IMAGINE

Imagine a packed auditorium filled with people who have come from far and wide to hear high-profile Christian speakers tell far fetched, re-imagined stories about a land mentioned in an old book that they don’t really believe anymore. They tell about all the ‘atrocities and human rights violations’ that are committed by the Israelis towards the wonderful Palestinian people. They talk about how GOD never gave Israelis the land they ‘stole’ and now ‘occupy’, and all they would have to do is share a little more of it because the Palestinians just want peace. They lament that the Hamas charter is ‘unfortunate’ but if the Israelis would just gave them space, they would settle down. No one bursts into laughter as the outrageous mis-information pile grows higher.

There’s more! Imagine! Although only two speakers are mentioned on the website . . . surprise! An unknown Greek Orthodox pony tailed priest[2] in a long black robe takes his turn in the spot light and tells the audience how they no longer believe in the concept of original sin, and how the ‘chosen people’ concept has been re-thought and the Bible has been re-visited on core issues.

It may sound like an evening at The Improv, but this is no stand up comedy routine. The main attractions, in fact, appear to be seriously irritated by the pro-Israel advocates who try to speak, even cutting one from the microphone, which is very obvious to the crowd. Because well behaved Christian Zionists don’t throw rocks or shout obscenities and threats, the lecturers use their free speech rights to continue critiquing the “Christian Right,” referring to Christian Zionism as though it is a huge, monolithic controlling ‘government’ within the church (when it is actually a small percentage). Meanwhile, the Christian Zionists in this packed auditorium of 250 are mostly of the older generation and highly outnumbered by about 10 to 1.

One can only imagine how some pro-Israel supporters in attendance find such an evening so spiritually oppressive and intolerable, and the propaganda so hard to take, that they begin to feel physically sick. Because it is so shockingly, most of the mis-information stacks up without retort, although one soft-spoken gentleman from the audience manages to destroy the speakers’ arguments from his seat.

Other than a pungent ecumenical aroma[3], the stories offered at such a dark comedy of errors appears to be nothing more than an attempt to court the uninformed and woo them over to the other side.

The final curtain drops. The tragedy is over, for now. A few students seek out the Zionists for an alternative answer, which they are given. The rest of the crowd goes home to spread the new propaganda that sounds right to their ears.

Imagine . . . attending a lecture by Christians on the biblical view of Christian Zionism and finding nothing but inaccuracies and anti-Israel propaganda. Welcome to the new fascism.

October 24, 2014, but more importantly, this scene is also one that is playing everywhere, and may be coming soon to a town near you.
[2] Imagine hearing a speaker who was not on the list, and no one seemed to know his name. Someone later thought this might be a Greek Orthodox Archbishop associate of one of the speakers who belongs to a group that seems to have re-thought the traditional views of the penal substitutionary atonement and a literal hell. A comment that ensued suggested that, if so, ‘at least the speakers are consistent’ in that they get it ALL wrong.

“A new Ecumenical deal with Evangelicals, Protestants, Catholics and Orthodox Christians.”

The Islamization of Jerusalem

The Islamization of Jerusalem is an international cause. It does not just come out of Gaza City or even Ramallah. Nor Doha or Istanbul. The politicians and diplomats of every major country demand the Islamization of Jerusalem. When they talk about a Palestinian State with its capital in Jerusalem what they are really demanding is the restoration of the Muslim ethnic cleansing of Jerusalem in 1948.

Attacks on Israel and Friends

There have been three tragic attacks in as many days on Israel and her supporting friend, Canada (Saturday people and Sunday people). The attackers all have links to radical Islam.

Vehicle driven by Hamas member careens into people at light rail station; eight others injured, suspect shot; Netanyahu blames Abbas ‘incitement’
A three-month-old girl was killed Wednesday afternoon and eight others were injured when a car crashed into a crowd at a light rail station in Jerusalem in what officials said was a terrorist attack.
The suspect, identified by an Israeli official as a member of terror group Hamas, attempted to flee the scene on foot and was shot and badly hurt by police, a police spokesperson said.

Canadian officials identify shooter in brazen attack on Parliament complex
Canadian authorities late Wednesday identified the shooter in a brazen attack on the Parliament complex in Ottawa that left a soldier dead as Michael Zehaf-Bibeau, 32, Fox News has confirmed.
The shooting, which left the nation’s capital on lockdown, came just two days after a terror attack in Quebec.
A government official told Fox that investigators believe Zehaf-Bibeau, who was killed at the scene, had changed his name from Joseph Michael Hall. U.S. agencies also have been advised he was believed to be a convert to Islam and was from Quebec.
Counter terrorism investigators are reviewing his social media traffic and profile, with a focus on any link to the attack on two soldiers in Quebec Monday.

Radicalized Muslim convert…

Suspect in attack on 2 soldiers in Quebec ‘had become radicalized’

The man who allegedly struck two soldiers with his car in Quebec and was killed after a police chase had become “radicalized” and was known to federal authorities, the Prime Minister’s Office said Monday.

They used bullets and cars . . .

“Zehaf-Bibeau had connections to at least one jihadist who went to Syria to wage jihad, and Rouleau listened to what the Islamic State was saying, and “did his part” in Canada. What was the Islamic State saying? Late in September, the Islamic State’s spokesman, Abu Muhammad Al-Adnani, urged Muslims to murder non-Muslims in the West. “Rely upon Allah,” he thundered, “and kill him in any manner or way however it may be. Do not ask for anyone’s advice and do not seek anyone’s verdict. Kill the disbeliever whether he is civilian or military, for they have the same ruling.” He also addressed Western non-Muslims: “You will not feel secure even in your bedrooms. You will pay the price when this crusade of yours collapses, and thereafter we will strike you in your homeland, and you will never be able to harm anyone afterwards.”

Al-Adnani told Muslims to murder non-Muslims with any weapon at hand, or anything that could be used as a weapon: “If you are not able to find an IED or a bullet, then single out the disbelieving American, Frenchman, or any of their allies. Smash his head with a rock, or slaughter him with a knife, or run him over with your car, or throw him down from a high place, or choke him, or poison him.” Zehaf-Bibeau found a bullet. Rouleau found a car.”

More on the upcoming Friends of Sabeel anti-Zionist mini conference . . .

For all those who have expressed a serious interest in attending next week’s anti-Zionist lectures by Gary Burge and Ron Dart, Olive Press is posting the following research helps:

To get an idea of Ron Dart’s view on Christian Zionism, watch a discussion between Prof. Ron Dart of UFV and Vladika Lazar about the phenomenon of Christian Zionism in Canada, here:

To understand the views of Dr. Gary Burge of Wheaton College as he shares about “Theology of the Land in the New Testament” at Christ at the Checkpoint 2012, watch here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FRlgxfqB8wI

Also in regards to Gary Burge’s beliefs regarding Israel, the following is an excerpt from an article written by pro-Zionist warrior Jim Fletcher this August, during the height of the Gaza conflict. Please read the entire article if you plan to attend the mini conference next week.

Israel’s battle of the Burge
AUGUST 29, 2014 by Jim Fletcher

At a time when jihadists are not only slaughtering innocents, but also advancing their media war by using religious dupes in America to advance their political goals, it is distressing — catastrophic, really — to see Israel’s old enemies in the American church continue to blame the victim

Gary Burge, a professor of theology at Wheaton College, the storied evangelical institution in Chicago (and home of the Billy Graham Center for Evangelism), has penned another polemic that distorts the situation in Gaza.

Curiously, Palestinian apologists like Burge accept the label “evangelical” when in fact their ideologies align far more with mainline, liberal/leftist denominations. Others who fall into this camp are Tony Campolo, Brian McLaren, and Bill and Lynne Hybels. In fact, I believe they accept the evangelical label in order to dupe real evangelicals.
In an August 26 piece for The World Post (“A Partnership of the Huffington Post and Berggruen Institute on Governance”), Burge once again castigates Israel. An important initial reaction to note when reading “Gaza: Some Secrets Few Will Say Aloud” is that Burge never tells his readers that Gazans elected Hamas. An avalanche of such inconvenient facts is meaningless to a propaganda hack like Burge, whose animus for Jews and for Israel is now legendary.

(In a bizarre introduction to his post, Burge described sitting in a Phoenix airport and overhearing men advocate bombing Gaza “back to the stone age.” Burge then decided to move a few seats over because: “Besides. This was Arizona and I was in ‘conceal-carry’ central.” Did he really think he might be shot? This little aside allows Burge to caricature conservatives as wild-eyed loose cannons, literally.)

Much of what follows in his post is garden-variety Israel-bashing, as Burge begins by alleging that Israel, during the War of Independence, forced 750,000 Arabs from their homes. Comically, he cites Benny Morris and Ilan Pappe as authorities on this subject. No mention of the Jews forced from Arab countries in the same period, either.
He then gets into the numbers game regarding casualties since Operation Protective Edge began, telegraphing his lack of empathy over Jewish deaths: “And on the Israeli side: 67 (mostly) soldiers have died.”

Burge ends that section of his post with this:

“The bottom line: Israel has been actively bombing Gaza for a long time.”

Does Burge know this is factually not true? Would it matter if he did?

Anti-Zionist Lectures in Canada

Previously, Olive Press reported on the Facing the New Jerusalem Conference: Face-to-Face with Christian Zionism and with Palestinian Christians by Friends of Sabeel. Originally scheduled for this October in the Lower Mainland of B.C., Canada, it has been postponed until spring 2015. (See the information and reasons for concern as previously posted on this blog here: Canadian Friends of Sabeel or Enemies of Israel?)

Christians who support Israel and are aware of this upcoming anti-Zionist conference next spring may also be interested in a lecture series next week. It seems to be the precursor to next year’s Friends of Sabeel conference (at the same location). This mini-conference is also supported by Canadian Friends of Sabeel and endorsed by the political science department at UFV[1]. Here is the information:

Since these (anti-Zionist) lectures are about what Christian Zionists believe, it is interesting that no Christian Zionists have been invited to speak at this event. An insider’s tell-all on the media war against Israel

Barbara Kay: An insider’s tell-all on the media war against Israel

In the historical scheme of things, Israel’s summer war with Gaza was small potatoes. But western media, largely critical of Israel, made a banquet of it. And in the familiar way of most western media, the main course was well-roasted Israel.
Anti-Zionists tend to dismiss such charges as conspiracy theories, pointing to the few pro-Zionist or even-handed publications they insist dominate the debate (such as the National Post). But now comes a credible media insider with evidence that isn’t so easily rebutted. Matti Friedman, a journalist and author, worked as a reporter and editor in the Jerusalem bureau of Associated Press (AP) between 2006-11. His August 26 article in Tabletmag.com, “An insider’s guide to the most important story on earth,” explains how and why so many media covering the Middle East are essentially telling their audiences that Jews are the “worst people on earth.”

Canadian Friends of Sabeel or Enemies of Israel? (UPDATED)

There are many reasons why the upcoming Friends of Sabeel conference in Canada requires a word of caution. Originally scheduled for this October, it has been postponed till next spring. This gives those who are considering registering more time to think about the following questions.

1) What is Sabeel?

“Sabeel Ecumenical Liberation Theology Center, headquartered in Jerusalem, has been a persistent source of anti-Zionist agitation in mainline Protestant churches in the United States since its founding in 1994. The organization subjects Israel, Jews, and Judaism to intense scrutiny while remaining nearly silent about Arab and Muslim extremism in the Middle East. In addition to publicizing the writings of its founder, Anglican priest Naim Ateek, Sabeel broadcasts its message via regional conferences in the United States and regular study missions to Israel. Far-Left American and Israeli Jews are given prominent display at Sabeel conferences, where Israel is held up to a strict biblical standard of conduct while its adversaries are held to no standard at all. By giving its followers the sense that they are engaging in a showdown with the forces of evil embodied by Israel and its U.S supporters, Sabeel reenacts the church-synagogue rivalry documented in early Christian writings.”

– jcpa.org [1]

Paul Wilkinson, who attended the Sabeel conference in 2004, said:

“…the Lord prompted me so clearly to go out to Israel for the very first time and witness this movement called Sabeel, and see all these evangelical leaders assembling in Jerusalem, basically, to condemn Israel, to condemn the United States for supporting Israel, and to condemn all Christians for supporting Israel based on a literal interpretation of the Word of God, and that’s where I met men like Stephen Sizer, Gary Burge, Donald Wagner—leading evangelicals within the Anglican and Presbyterian churches who, as I mentioned in a previous program, lined up with Yasser Arafat and gave him their support and their endorsement, and that shows you the power of this movement I’ve termed, “Christian Palestinianism,” that Yasser Arafat would want to meet with this group involved with the Sabeel conference.”
 [2]

Friends of Sabeel are those who partner and work with Sabeel Ecumenical Liberation Theology Center and what is described by many as an anti-Israel agenda. They have chapters in the US, Canada, the UK and Australia.

2) Who are the speakers?

Well known speakers at the upcoming Friends of Sabeel Conference in Canada include Dr. Naim Ateek, Gary Burge, Donald Wagner (all mentioned above). Another less well known speaker is Ron Dart, a professor at the university where the conference is to be held. Dart, who is a board member of the Thomas Merton Society of Canada, appears to be on the same page as emerging church leaders Brian McLaren and Phylis Tickle[3]. A colleague of screen writer Kevin Miller, Dart has also appeared on his film ‘Hellbound'[4], the controversial documentary that questioned the traditional view of a literal hell. Dart is a main voice opposing the Conservative Party of Steven Harper, the pro-Israel prime minister of Canada. Also listed for the Canadian Friends of Sabeel conference is a potential workshop led by musician Steve Bell, associate of Brian McLaren. Not only have these two partnered in a contemplative music project[5], in 2011 Brian McLaren and Steve Bell were special guests at the ‘Refreshing Winds’ conference at Canadian Mennonite University[6]. McLaren recently spoke at The Friends of Sabeel North America (FOSNA) regional conference that took place this April in Portland, Oregon[7], where he reframed and mocked important scripture passages to fit his interpretations. There will be many other speakers at this conference, but attendees might want to research them before subjecting themselves to their teachings (info below). For example, another speaker listed is director for the United Church of Canada’s Naramata Centre[8]. Not only is this centre completely immersed in contemplative and New Age spirituality, the United Church of Canada has recently adopted an anti-Israel bias[9]. Two years ago they voted to boycott Israeli products[10].

3) What are the issues that will be discussed at this conference?

Some of the main issues that will be discussed from a non-literal view of Bible interpretation will be Christian Zionism[11], Replacement Theology[12] and the Israeli “occupation of Palestine”[13]. Those attending may not be hearing the biblical view of these topics.

4) What about the advertisement for this conference that says: “We are called to challenge the false teaching that undermines the biblical message”?

As you can see, the voices representing Christianity at these Friends of Sabeel conferences appear to be on the same page and claim to have the ‘true’ teaching. However, they are not on the ‘literal’ Bible page. Many of them seem to be opposed to the truth taught in scripture about Israel and may be presenting their own interpretations. These are views held by emerging church leaders, as well as by those who are part of the anti-Israel campaign. Also interesting is how the element of contemplative spirituality is going to be strongly represented at this conference. Fortunately, because it has been postponed, those who wish to be a brave representative of truth for Israel now have more time to research and study before attending this conference[14].

I have set watchmen upon thy walls, O Jerusalem, which shall never hold their peace day nor night: ye that make mention of the LORD, keep not silence Isaiah 62:6

Upcoming conference on Christian Zionism:

Facing the New Jerusalem:
Face-to-Face with Christian Zionism and with Palestinian Christians

October 23  – 25, 2014 NEW DATE – SPRING 2015! (details t.b.a.)
University of the Fraser Valley
Abbotsford, B.C.
Canada

Why Bless Israel?

Facing the New Jerusalem: Face to Face with Christian Zionism

Why This Conference
Because even as he turned his face to Jerusalem (Luke 9:51), the followers of Jesus today must confront the hard realities of pain and suffering in the land of promise. Because many Christians and churches, with many Muslims and Jews, are committed to peace, justice and reconciliation with alternatives to Christian Zionism and Replacement Theology. Because our Palestinian Christian sisters and brothers have called us to hear their cry for reconciliation by better understanding our own faith. Because we are called to challenge the false teaching that undermines the biblical message of love, mercy, and justice present in the insidious form of Christian Zionism pervasive in our own traditions that remains silent in the face of the Israeli occupation of Palestine.

Conference Mission Statement
We aim to empower the many Christians and their churches, with many Muslims and Jews, who are committed to peace, justice and reconciliation in Palestine and Israel, with alternatives to Christian Zionism and Replacement Theology. We are called to challenge the false teaching that undermines the biblical message of love, mercy, and justice, present in the insidious form of Christian Zionism, often pervasive in our own traditions, and that remains silent in the face of the Israeli occupation of Palestine.

Who Should Attend?
• Christians, Muslims and Jews who want to learn from and engage with Palestinian Christianity.
• Leaders locally and nationally of Christian denominations
• Members of churches’ outreach units and service committees
• Faculty and students from theological colleges and seminaries
• Leaders of ecumenical networks

Objectives of this Conference
1. To educate participants on the history and theology of Christian Zionism in Canada and the U.S. and on how its manifestations represent a barrier to peace in the Middle East.
2. To empower denominational leaders with a deeper understanding of active and passive Christian Zionism so that they can educate their members on this aspect of engaging their faith with integrity.
3. To galvanize church-related organizations, faith-based groups and civil society groups who are working in solidarity with the churches and who affirm the role of the churches in challenging spurious charges of anti-semitism and being anti-Jewish .
4. To equip churches, seminaries and teaching centres with updated scholarship and information on the churches’ stand on Christian Zionism.
5. To support Christians in Canada with the knowledge, resources and confidence to participate more actively and effectively in the wider public discourse regarding Canada’s role in Israel Palestine and foreign policy in the Middle East.
To spread the word through the anticipated 200 participants including students, and by providing online access to proceedings during and after the Conference.

ISRAEL, HAMAS AND THE AMERICAN PROPAGANDA MACHINE
August 4, 2014

Today we are talking about truth and fiction coming out of the Middle East, particularly from Israel and the Gaza area, where information has been intentionally skewed to gain sympathy from the West for the terrorist group known as Hamas. Joining us today is a frequent guest here on Stand Up For The Truth: Gary Kah.

Gary is the former Europe & Middle East Trade Specialist with an inside track on the efforts underway to establish a one-world political/financial system, along with the religious element connected with one-world/interfaith movement. . .

PM to Presbyterians: Israel a vibrant democracy

PM to Presbyterians: Israel a vibrant democracy
At Taglit event, Netanyahu advises critics to go to Syria, Iraq and see ‘Christians prosecuted and minorities butchered’

After speaking harshly against the Presbyterian Church (USA) and its decision to divest from three Israeli companies on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday continued to jab at the religious group while speaking to Jewish youths touring Israel

Referencing the church’s decision to divest from three companies which it says benefit from Israel’s occupation of the West Bank, Netanyahu said “Israel is a vibrant, free and prosperous democracy that respects human rights. I suggest to those who are against Israel to go to Libya, Syria and Iraq. They will see Christians prosecuted and minorities butchered.”

Pope Francis’ Unfriendly Visit to Israel

Pope Francis’ Unfriendly Visit

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman were right when they blamed the noxious anti-Israel incitement rampant in Europe for Saturday’s murderous shooting attack at the Jewish Museum in Brussels and the assault and battery of two Jewish brothers outside their synagogue in a Paris suburb later that day.

Anti-Israel incitement is ubiquitous in Europe and is appearing in ever-widening circles of the Western world as a whole.

Until this week, the Catholic Church stayed out of the campaign to dehumanize Jews and malign the Jewish state.

Pope Benedict XVI was perceived as a friend of Israel, despite his childhood membership in the Hitler Youth. . .

Iran broadcasts simulated attack on Israel while getting free deal

Iranian simulation: Missiles on Ben Gurion

While Geneva talks make progress towards agreement, Iranian state television broadcast simulated missile attack on Israel
Ynet

An agreement between the United States and Iran over the latter’s nuclear program seems imminent, but the charm offensive in Geneva is not mirrored at home. In Tehran, the Iranian government sent a different message with a broadcast on state television of a simulated missile attack on Israel.

The hour-long documentary program included segments about the capabilities of Iranian missiles and the possibility of their use in response to foreign threats. The program included a video simulation of a potential response by Iran to an Israeli strike on its nuclear facilities.

Steve Chalke, Lucy Winkett, and Graham Kendrick gang upon Israel.

UK’S GREENBELT = HERESEY, HYPOCRISY AND HYPE
Sept 10, 2013
By James Jacob Prash

Steve Chalke, Lucy Winkett, and Graham Kendrick gang upon Israel.

We have long ridiculed the hypocritical idiocy of the left wing press, fundamentalist Islamic interests, the politicians they own in Washington and London, and anti Semites at the targeting of Israel. As no one can contest, Israel simply has by far the best record of human rights (even for homosexuals and lesbians), women’s rights, civil rights of free political expression and an independent judiciary, and above all the best Christian rights in the Middle East. Every hypocritical apologist for Islamic terror, every left wing propagandist at the BBC and CNN masquerading as a journalist, and every left wing pseudo-academic parasite masquerading as a scholar, habitually ignores the grossest violations of human rights, civil rights, women’s rights, and the unspeakable persecution of Christians throughout the Moslem world and in the Islamic nations surrounding Israel, choosing instead to divert attention away from this reality by designating Israel as a villain…

Rewriting the History of Israel

According to Palestinian Media Watch:

“Rewriting the history of the Land of Israel in order to deny Israel’s right to exist is central to Palestinian Authority (PA) policy. Long before it started the PA terror campaign (the ‘Intifada,’ 2000-2005), the PA was fighting a history war – erasing Jewish history and replacing it with a fabricated Palestinian history.

“Erasing Jewish history in the land of Israel is followed by the PA’s invention of ancient and modern histories that support its political ideology and claim to the land of Israel. The Holocaust and other aspects of Jewish history are alternately denied, downplayed or distorted. Another distortion is to hide from Palestinians that Jesus was a Jew who lived in the Land of Judea/Israel. PA leaders repeatedly define Jesus as a Palestinian who preached Islam, thus denying not only Jewish history, but also the history and legitimacy of Christianity.”

Calvary Chapel Rebukes Palestinian Event

Calvary Chapel Rebukes Palestinian Event
by Jim Fletcher

In a dramatic showdown last week within the Calvary Chapel (CC) movement, the leadership of the California-based association of churches rebuked an event held at North Coast Calvary Chapel that featured a presentation by Palestinian activists.

Called “Hope for the Holy Land,” the seminar program aims to present the Palestinian narrative to church audiences. Observers are saying that what made the North Coast event such a flashpoint was the fact that since its inception, Calvary Chapel has been staunchly pro Israel.

The Christian Left’s Peculiar Hatred of Israel

The Christian Left’s Peculiar Hatred of Israel

Last week Jerusalem witnessed the convergence of 80 Christian leaders from 20 countries and five continents. They came to Israel to express their solidarity with the Jewish state and its Jewish people. The occasion was the fourth bi-annual leadership forum of Christians for Israel; a non-denominational Christian organization that was established in the Netherlands in the 1970s and has grown in numbers to the hundreds of thousands. Issuing “A call to repentance, a word of hope,” their statement declared that God has not terminated his everlasting covenant with Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and their descendants, and that the Church has definitely not replaced Israel as God’s covenant people.

Religious Left Joins in Condemning Israel

Religious Left Joins in Condemning Israel
by Mark Tooley

It didn’t take long. Israel had barely begun to respond militarily to Hamas’s ongoing rocket attacks on Israeli civilians when the “U.S. Campaign to End the Occupation” quickly asked its supporters to urge President Obama to “investigate” Israel’s “violations” of U.S. weapons laws.

The suggested communication to Obama noted Israel had killed 21 mostly civilian Palestinians in the “occupied and besieged” Gaza. It also kindly admitted that 3 Israeli civilians had died from a Palestinian rocket. It’s not clear how Gaza is “occupied” since Israel withdrew in 2007, leaving it to suffer under Hamas rule.

Anti-Israel Christians Stir Further Controversy

Anti-Israel Christians Stir Further Controversy

The October 4 ecumenical letter to the U.S. Congress from 15 mostly old-line Protestant bureaucrats warning against U.S. military aid for Israel absent “immediate investigation” of Israeli human rights abuses continues to stir controversy. The letter from United Methodist, Presbyterian Church (USA), Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and other clerics of course was uninterested in any potential human rights abuses by the Palestinian recipients of U.S. aid. Seven major U.S. Jewish groups cancelled an October scheduled interfaith dialogue with these denominations in protest. The Jimmy Carter Center has since endorsed the ecumenical anti-Israel appeal, naturally. And anti-Israel Episcopalians are imploring their denomination’s Presiding Bishop, who notably declined to sign the appeal, to reconsider.

A grim picture of Jewish-Protestant relations

At interfaith meet in Jerusalem, a grim picture of Jewish-Protestant relations

After US Jews scrapped a Jewish-Christian roundtable over an anti-Israel letter to Congress, visiting Protestant minister bemoans ‘Goliath’ of religious anti-Semitism

Protestant clergymen painted a largely pessimistic view of the church’s relationship with Israel and the Jewish community during a visit to the Holy Land, suggesting that anti-Semitism is a deep-seated problem based in Christian theology that will be difficult to uproot.

Jewish-Protestant relations are currently undergoing a severe crisis after senior leaders of Mainline Protestant churches in the US last month accused Israel of “widespread” human rights violations and urged Congress to reconsider military aid to Jerusalem.

Netanyahu condemns those who stayed in hall to hear Iranian president; rebuffed by Obama, Israeli leader will meet Clinton, Ban, Ashton on whirlwind trip

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu left for New York in the immediate aftermath of the Yom Kippur fast on Wednesday evening, to address the annual General Assembly of the United Nations on Thursday and conduct meetings with several world leaders.

Shortly before flying out, Netanyahu bitterly castigated Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s speech to the UN earlier Wednesday, and those who stayed in the room to hear it. “On the day that we pray to be inscribed in the Book of Life,” the prime minister said in reference to Yom Kippur, “the authoritarian Iranian regime takes every opportunity to condemn us to death.”

AHMADINEJAD’S END TIMES SPEECH TO THE U.N.

EXCLUSIVE: AHMADINEJAD’S END TIMES SPEECH TO THE U.N.: Gives most detailed explanation of Twelfth Imam to date; tells UN leaders Mahdi will “soon” reign over world

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Wednesday called for the end of the “hegemonic” powers of the United States and Israel, whom he described as “the uncivilized Zionists.” He said the world would ”soon” see new “global management” by the Twelfth Imam, also known as the “Mahdi,” and his deputy, Jesus Christ.

This was Ahmadinejad’s eighth and likely final annual address to the opening fall session of the United Nations General Assembly. He is expected to finish his second term in office in June 2013. In each of his past U.N. speeches, he prayed for the soon coming of the so-called Islamic messiah. This time he went much further, offering his most detailed explanation to date of his Shia Islamic eschatology (End Times theology) and his understanding of the coming rule of the Twelfth Imam.

The United Church of Canada last week approved a boycott on all products made in disputed Israeli-Palestinian territories in protest over Israeli settlements purportedly pushing into Palestinian territory.
The recommendation was approved on Aug. 15 by the Church’s General Council in Ottawa, after an eight-day event that included more than 350 delegates.

Vatican appointment humiliates Israel

Vatican appointment humiliates Israel

Op-ed: Appointment of archbishop linked to pedophile priests’ scandal as envoy to Jerusalem underscores strained Israel-Holy See ties
Menachem Gantz

The decision by Pope Benedict XVI to appoint Archbishop Giuseppe Lazzarotto as the new papal ambassador to the Holy Land is an embarrassment and humiliation for Israel. The new papal nuncio, as the ambassador is known, has been serving as papal envoy to Australia since 2007, and he is expected to replace outgoing Archbishop Antonio Franco after six years of service in Jerusalem.

Franco, who threatened to boycott the Holocaust Remembrance Day ceremony five years ago, will be remembered in Rome as the envoy who conducted the Catholic Church’s battle to clear the name of Pope Pius XII at the Yad Vashem Museum. The campaign was hailed as a success by the Vatican after the Holocaust memorial museum agreed to replace a caption suggesting Pope Pius XII did not do enough to stop the genocide of six million Jews by Nazi Germany during World War II.

OBAMA’S MUSLIM DINNER SPEECH

OBAMA’S MUSLIM DINNER SPEECH

Obama’s politically correct spin on Islam grows more and more buffoonish. At the very moment he accuses Christians of waging a “war on women,” he casts Islam as a benevolent religion to which the Sandra Flukes could take refuge.

He used his remarks at this year’s Iftar dinner to praise Islam as a female-friendly religion. “Indeed, you know that the Koran teaches, ‘Be it man or woman, each of you is equal to the other,’” he said. For Obama, it is the Bible, not the Koran, that reeks of dangerous patriarchy. Obama has mocked the Book of Leviticus, Deuteronomy, and St. Paul’s letters, but he would never dare question a passage in the Koran, which he regards as a holy and blameless book in no need of politically correct revision.
